3 Tips For Starting Your Off Grid Life
Whether you have reached retirement and are in seek of a less expensive and more simple way to live, or you are sick and tired of conventional lifestyles and would like to craft your own life, off grid with the one you love – there can be some stress and complications involved when it comes to figuring out how to live the way you really want to. To help you out, here are 3 tips for starting your off grid life!
Look Into Local Laws
Wherever in the world it is that you are trying to begin your off-grid lifestyle journey, unfortunately, a part of it is that you are going to have to look into local laws and ordinances. Do as much research and ask as many questions as you can – laws differ greatly from place to place, so in some places you may be able to buy a plot of land and build (or not build) whatever types of structures you want, while in other places you won’t be able to build anything without getting a large fine if you are caught.
Some people choose to do what they want regardless of the laws and hope not to get caught, but this isn’t always the best idea. You will have to learn what you can about the specifics in your town/county so that you can figure out whether it would be better to ask for permission or forgiveness.
Do Your Research
Researching as much as you can about off-grid lifestyles and even contacting other people who have chosen similar routes and interviewing them is a great way to get acquainted with the type of life you may be headed for.
Of course, living any type of unconventional life will mean that there will be roadblocks along the way. You will have times of stress and discomfort, but if you are finally able to live the life you want, you will be more than happy to make a few sacrifices!
If you find that this is very much not the case, you may want to re-think exactly how off the grid you actually want to be. Doing proper research will help you to avoid any unpleasant surprises in the future.
Ask For Help
If you are embarking on your off-grid journey for the first time, you will probably have a lot of confusion and unanswered questions will be swirling through your mind. Sometimes no amount of reading or research can prepare you for real life experiences, and in these cases it is best to ask for help from your friends! They can help you build, clean, plan, organize, or just be there for you to lend an ear when you need to chat. Never be afraid to ask for help or give it to others when they need it.
Starting your new life away from others and “off the grid” so to speak can be scary but it is also super exciting! Hopefully these tips will help you out.
